Hettich ROTINA 380R Benchtop Centrifuge Used in Study Analyzing the Effect of Kefir on Laying Hens
Researchers from the Ataturk University cited the Hettich ROTINA 380R benchtop centrifuge in the study entitled "Effect of Kefir upon the Performance, Intestinal Microflora and Histopathology of Certain Organs in Laying Hens."
Ad the study notes, "animal performace and feed efficiency are linked closely with the microbial load of the digestive tract, structure of intestinal wall and immune system activity." Researchers sought to investigate the possibility of optimizing the microbial load of laying hens with the probiotic kefir.
Laying hens were separated into three trial groups, namely: "C" being the control group with no treatment; "A" with 10 ml volume of kefir; and "B" with 7.5 ml kefir per liter of water. The animals were fed for 10 weeks with basal diets. Samples from the intestinal tract were taken and homogenized using the Hettich ROTINA 380R benchtop centrifuge.
After further investigation and analysis, scientists concluded that high kefir intake poses health threats that may damage the digestive organ structures of the laying hens. The high amounts of kefir also substantially descreased egg yield, low concentrations showed considerable increased in egg yield on the sixth week and beyond.
Hettich's comprehensive line of centrifuges enables scientists to conduct important testing and research, such as this study on the potential performance benefits of kefir-supplemented chicken feed. The Hettich ROTINA 380R is a high-capacity, general purpose benchtop centrifuge suited for routine and specialized laboratory applications.
