Autoclaving

Autoclaving

Category: Care & Maintenance
Topic: Decontamination

Most facilities have a pre-determined schedule of maintenance for the different categories of equipment. Hettich recommends all centrifuges be cleaned and inspected at "regular intervals". For high usage (24 hours a day/ 7 days a week), once a month is strongly suggested. For mid to low usage, (normal business hours, weekdays only), every three months.

How to autoclave Hettich centrifuge accessories:

  1. Shut the centrifuge off and unplug the centrifuge from the wall outlet.
  2. Remove all inserts, buckets and rotor to be autoclaved from the centrifuge.
  3. To remove the rotor, follow these instructions.
  4. Load items into the autoclave and follow proper autoclaving instructions as listed by each facility manager.
  5. After autoclaving, rotors and accessories must be thoroughly dried prior to use in the centrifuge. Air drying of rotors and accessories MAY result in undesirable oxidation under certain conditions.
  6. Prior to loading the rotors and accessories into the centrifuge, ensure they are properly lubricated. Please follow the Product Manual instructions located here or follow these instructions.
  7. To properly install a rotor into the centrifuge, please follow these instructions.

At no time should a Hettich centrifuge be autoclaved. For instructions on cleaning your Hettich centrifuge, please click here.
