Hettich MIKRO 120 Microliter Centrifuge Used in T-Cell Lymphoma Research
The Hettich MIKRO 120 microliter centrifuge was used for sample treatment in the study entitled, “Histopathological Features of Peripheral T-cell Lymphoma in Sprague Dawley Rats Induced with N-methyl-N-nitrosourea,” published by the Universiti Putra Malaysia Press.
The study’s main objective was to distinguish the pathological features of peripheral T-cell lymphoma using32 six-week-old male Sprague Dawley rats that were humanely induced with N-methyl-N-nitrosourea (MNU) – a type of carcinogen found in food and tobacco smoke that typically targets the organs.
In the study, necropsied rat organ samples were prepared and histopathological examinations were completed. During immunohistochemistry analysis, a primary antibody “was used to classify the lineage of the neoplastic cells in the necropsied organs.” Scientists employed the Hettich MIKRO 120 to centrifuge the primary antibody at 12,000 rpm for 20 seconds before dilution.
“The results of this study showed that all the rats treated with MNU (2 died during the experimental period) had enlargement of the lymph nodes, with 30% of the rats had hepatosplenomegaly and 7% had enlarged kidneys at necropsy.” Further, “the immunohistochemistry staining of the organs was positive for CD3…which is consistent with T-cell lymphoma.”
